"If you pick it up expecting a smooth read about some string-pluckin', beer-drinkin' country boys you've got another thing coming. This book presents a complex cast of finely delineated characters who experience the total drama of life. There is bluegrass music, yes, some song lyrics and some poetry, and – a book, "A Moderately Poetic Quasi-History of Pennsylvania," which is being read aloud throughout the novel. During his 25 years of teaching the author has learned a thing or two. His knowledge of the flora and fauna of Pennsylvania (and elsewhere) is impressive. Bravo, Pappalardo! I gotta read this again! Back to the beginning, boys."
